Spray Tanning Pre-Tan and Aftercare Advice

Pre-Care?

Before you arrive for your spray tan, make sure you do the following:

1 – Exfoliate
Exfoliate in the morning, or at the very earliest, the night before, and don’t put on any lotions, moisturisers or deodorants.  Don’t use an oily exfoliant, but do exfoliate to remove the top dead skin cells.  If you don’t, your tanning solution may sit on top of dead skin cells, and your spray tan will wear off sooner.

2 – Wax/Shave
If you plan shaving or waxing before your appointment, please do this around 24 hours before your spray tan, to ensure your pores are closed, and cannot let tan solution in.  If you wax or shave too close to your spray tan, you may end up with a spotty appearance.

3 – Clothing
If you choose to wear your own underwear, a dark strapless bra and pants would be best, to avoid staining.  We can supply disposable underwear.   It’s advisable to wear dark and loose clothing to your appointment, to minimise the potential for staining afterwards.  Sheets and clothes may stain during the first 8 hours after spraying.  Wash as you normally would to help remove the colour.

Aftercare

1 – Developing Time
The tan does not take long to apply, but it does take around 8-10 hours to develop, so if you shower the following day, it’s advisable to do so, without using soaps, shampoo, or shower gel.

2 – Clothing & Shoes
Flip flop shoes are the best choice for shoes during the developing time.  Avoid tight clothing during the developing time.

3 – Activities
Avoid swimming or exercise for at least 8 hours, as sweating can affect the development of your tan.

Maintenance

  • Use moisturiser regularly.
  • Exfoliate after the first few days.
  • Pat skin dry, rather than rubbing.
  • Sea water and chlorine in swimming pools can affect your tan, and lower the effects.
