Spray Tanning FAQ’s

What do I do to prepare myself for a tan?

Exfoliate and moisturise your body at least 24 hours prior to your tan.   Do have a shower before your tan, to remove the last traces of any oil or moisturiser you have on your body.  After your shower, do not apply perfume, make-up, oils, lotions, moisturisers or deodorants.  These are very likely to create a barrier to your tan, and may end up with a streak result.

Waxing and shaving?

Please do wax or shave before your tanning session, but please ensure you do so at least 24 hours before your appointment for a tan.

Clothing?

For your tan, wear comfortable clothes to travel to and from your appointment.  They should be dark clothes, to ensure minimal staining.  Light coloured clothes may well stain.  The best clothes to wear for a spray tan, is loose for arrival and departure, with flip flops for leaving, and old dark underwear for your spray tan.  We can provide you with paper underwear, but this is really for the brave, as the paper tends to fly around, and does not protect much in the way of modesty.

Appointment Time?

We book you in for around half an hour.  In that time, it takes approximately 5-10 minutes for the tan, but another 10-15 minutes for you to dry.

Can I put my clothes on straight after?

Tan Depth

This is something we can never predict.  Everyone reacts to tanning solution differently.  Some people go very dark and others just have a dewy glow, yet both can be using the same strength solution.  We’ll discuss your expectations and what you are looking for from your tan, and choose a solution that should work the best.  For special occasions, we would always advise a tan trial or two, to ensure you get the colour of your dreams.

How long does the tan last?

Spray tans last around 5 days to a week, but this depends on several factors, for example, how well you exfoliated beforehand, your skin type, such as oily or dry, and how well you look after your tan at home.

1 – Developing Time

The tan does not take long to apply, but it does take around 8-10 hours to develop, so if you shower the following day, it’s advisable to do so, without using soaps, shampoo, or shower gel.

2 – Clothing & Shoes
Flip flop shoes are the best choice for shoes during the developing time.  Avoid tight clothing during the developing time.

3 – Activities
Avoid swimming or exercise for at least 8 hours, as sweating can affect the development of your tan.

Maintenance

  • Use moisturiser regularly.
  • Exfoliate after the first few days.
  • Pat skin dry, rather than rubbing.
  • Sea water and chlorine in swimming pools can affect your tan, and lower the effects.
